Ten things I learned one weekend.
1. Picking out baby supplies is a part-time job.
2. People need to eat less and move more
3. Two soft pretzels is not dinner.
4. Fancy sofa beds are extremely comfortable.
5. You can have a late lunch, a subway detour, run with two bags up seven staircases and through multi-lane traffic, and still catch a bus to NYC.
6. I am a highly unmotivated marathoner.
7. The best time to go to Whole Foods is before 9am.
8. The best things to fill your cart with are fruit, vegetables, and Burt's Bees.
9. "Your Love" by The Outfield is the best song to listen to while cleaning the bathroom.
10. You should take as many 3-day weekends as possible.

Retroactive listing: Part III
60. College football, now that I kind of understand it. (But really I just like knowing what all the letters on the referee shirts mean.)
59. I like the snapping of new shampoo bottle lids.
58. I love the city still.
57. I love index cards and I like making lists on them. Especially big ones, and in pencil.
56. "Arrested Development." Best show ever.
55. I like my handwriting, depending on the writing implement I'm using and the thickness of the paper. Fronts of new pages are better than backs. But I always like how I write the letter "s" in script at the end of words.
54. I like when I've walked around neighborhoods enough to piece them together, figuring out where one stops and the other starts. And I like landmarks. I like this best in a foreign city like Paris or Florence. It makes me feel residential.
53. I like bare trees covered in white lights.
52. I like the smell of pine when it comes from trees in the city all lined up on the sidewalk to be bought for Christmas.
51. I like bars whose façades are made of wood and painted red or green.
50. Even though it puts me to sleep, one of my favorite noises is slowly moving water. When I'm lifeguarding and someone is swimming slowly and gently, the rippling and tricking water sound is my favorite.
49. I like getting my hair cut. If it grew faster I would do it much more often.
48. Wintertime and ice skating and Christmassy things, even when it feel less like Christmastime.
47. I like when being kissed just the right way makes me want to cry.
46. I really like my wrist bones. In fact, they may very well be my favorite bones.
45. (November 25, 2005) Today in choir the bass and tenor sections sang this one part of the last chorus and it sounded so beautiful that I felt like getting emotional.
44. I like when classes I don't particularly fancy end early.
43. I like the L Magazine.
42. I like riding in the passenger seat of cars and watching the side view mirrors. Stationary car, receding scenery. Watching the past while you move forward. It reminds me of road trips, movie scenes and sunsets.
41. I like drinking out of water bottles continuously until it starts to crumple in my hand and my thumb and fingers touch.

40. I like creating new email accounts and if it wasn't too much to keep track of, I'd make a new one every day.
38. I like when it's sunny out and the lights are off in my dorm room and my curtain is closed because it makes a really nice orange glow. (It is perfect for naps.)
37. I like the number thirty-seven. It's my favorite.
36. (2005) I sort of like running. Sort of.
35. This is sort of strange, but there is a ponytail holder I put on a Dasani water bottle a million years ago, and it wasn't even mine to begin with, but I've never taken it off and I like when I pick this particular water bottle out of the refrigerator without looking. I don't know why I even like that.
34. I like that I have green eyes.
33. I sometimes enjoy being mildly to moderately narcissistic.
32. When I see pictures of myself that I like, it makes me happy to think that I will probably have very (at least half) cute children.
31. I like my brother, Frank.
30. I like that weather has distinct odors.
29. This particular click noise that my phone makes right before it rings so I know I'm going to get a call half a second before I do--I like that.
28. I really love living in the greatest city in the world, where people sit on small café chairs on library steps, make beautiful music on subway platforms, kiss hello and wave goodbye and play musical taxis and maneuver around one another in the most extraordinary ways.
27. Once I get started, I really like doing research. Books, articles, archives. It's so much fun, especially at the NYPL art room.
26. I like getting good grades on art papers about concepts I don't think I really understand, but maybe I do after all.
25. I like Christmas gum.
24. I liked that afternoon we spent in the bleachers at the Curtis lacrosse game.
23. I like boys who play instruments and boys who play well with kids.
22. I like peeling clementines in one whole piece. Oranges too, because they're harder.
21. I like when you haven't seen a friend in a really long time, but the second you talk or see each other again it's as if not a day has passed and everything just falls back into place.

20. I also like the smell of sunscreen year-round.
19. I sometimes like the kind of sleepy that swimming and chlorine makes me.
18. I like St. Marks Pl.
17. While I may not enjoy ArtH368, I really do enjoy the art of the collage. And I love every object I've bespattered with the random clippings of my life.
16. I like parents that don't use television as a babysitter and whose kids are funny and happy and creative because of it.
15. I like holding hands.
14. I secretly like my curly hair.
13. I used to like reading on the diving board of The Fountains on hot, empty afternoons before they took it down.
12. I love when two items that you use together get finished up at the same time. Like peanut butter and jelly, or laundry detergent and dryer sheets, or shampoo and conditioner, so that there isn't an excess of one over the other.
11. I like sleeping through class, and then later on finding out it was canceled anyway.
10. I like a good cry every now and then.
9. I like to sometimes bite into the ice cream part of ice cream cones, and not lick them. I think it's the teeth marks.
8. (November 9, 2005) Today I liked sitting on the shuttle bus on the way back to the dorms, listening to songs that usually make me feel like crying, staring out the window onto a cloudy city that was so busy with its own comings and goings. I liked that it was so windy that the trees were blowing around in a delicately violent way, making their leaves dance right off their branches and flutter in slow motion like snow, following erratic paths to the ground.
7. I like the phenomenon of creating verbs out of nouns. That my entire generation has become "friended."
6. I like old men who wear berets and chat up old women on the subway.
5. I like when I'm walking through a museum with my headphones on, and songs play that match entirely with the works or mood of the particular room I'm in- like a Baroque classical piece coming on when I walk into an 18th century French paneled room. Perfect.
4. I like to cut things like fun tac, silly putty or play-doh with scissors.
3. I like sort-of-stale marshmallows where the insides are still squishy, but the outsides have gotten kind of hard.
2. (2005) On really clear days, especially summer ones in the woods or at The Fountains apartment building where I lifeguard, I like to find a patch of nature that includes really blue sky, really green trees, and really white clouds all together.
1. Waking up to early morning sun and occasional car horns honking.
19. I sometimes like the kind of sleepy that swimming and chlorine makes me.
18. I like St. Marks Pl.

List? Let's
I keep a book of things that I like.
The problem is that I spend less and less time in front of this book with a pen in my hand, and more time in front of a computer/smart phone. I also lack the attention span and short-term memory to go back and fill this book in, so the list has been severely neglected in recent years. My goal is for this blog to help me get back on track liking the things that I like, and telling you about them.
Maybe you even like these things too.
