The 40th Annual Mini10k! Central Park, 8:00am, June 11, 2011

Ten reasons why I had an awesome race this morning:

1. The world's first all-female 10k in NYC in 1972 had 78 runners. Today I was one of 6,000 women. It's always amazing and I always get a little teary at the start.

2. It was not 100 degrees!!! Though I was wishing it would rain a little because I was still pretty hot.

3. Until mile 2 I would say my leg was slightly uncomfortable, but then I didn't feel it and it didn't ever hurt.

4. KT Tape, I'm sticking with you. Literally.

5. The guy on the side of the road playing "Chariots of Fire" theme on the trumpet was awesome.

6. I have no idea why I take the uphills so well, but I sure am happy I do.

7. I will never underestimate the power of a calf massage.

8. It was what my mind and body needed to convince myself I'll be able to run the marathon in 5 months.

9. I don't know my exact splits, but they got shorter every mile. My first mile was 10:26 but my average page was 9:43.

10. I knew I wasn't going to have a PR, but this actually ended up being my second fastest 10k ever!
